39422387_lSpring is an excellent time for seniors to get outside and enjoy the beauty of nature. With mild temperatures and an abundance of sunshine, there are a variety of activities for seniors to enjoy outside.

Here are a few of our favorite spring activities to keep you active and engaged:

Go Fishing
Pack up the rods and reels and head to one of the many rivers running around town. The Etowah River, Coosa River and Oostanaula Rivers all offer great spots for fishing. Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Bream, Bluegill, Crappie, Blue Catfish, Drum and Brown Trout are all found in lakes, rivers and reservoirs around Rome.

Catch a Baseball Game
Spend a spring or summer afternoon cheering on our home team, the Rome Braves. The Rome Braves are a Class- A South Atlantic League affiliate of the Rome Braves. There are few things better than enjoying peanuts and Cracker Jacks at a baseball game.

Take a Walk
Enjoy a little sunshine as you stroll along the beautiful walking trail in the courtyard. Walking daily can be beneficial to your health. Research has shown that walking reduces your risk for diabetes and heart disease, lowers blood pressure and increases bone density. Dust off those walking shoes and go from a stroll this spring.

Stop by a Farmer’s Market
Head over to the Rome Green Market each Saturday from May to October for entertainment, crafts and produce. The market specializes in locally and naturally grown fruits, vegetables, eggs, honey, breads, plants and cut flowers.

Try Gardening
No matter how green your thumb is, gardening is a wonderful spring activity filled with benefits. Get your hands dirty planting vegetables and flowers this season and enjoy the fruits of your labor in the coming months.

Spring Clean
Each year many of us sort through drawers, cabinets and closets getting rid of items we no longer need. Do a little spring cleaning and help reduce the clutter in your space. After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Go on an Outing
You don’t have to travel far to take in the beauty of the season. Rome and the surrounding areas offer a variety of attractions and activities perfect for an afternoon outing.

Enjoy a Concert
With great musical acts coming to Riverwood each week, there is an abundance of entertainment to choose from. The Mellow Tones, Wes Crider, Terri Helton, Jay Crider and Georgia Mountain Music are all schedule to visit us this month.

With an abundance of activities and events happening in our community and the Rome area, there is no shortage of spring fun to be had. When embarking on spring adventures, be sure to first consult with your doctor and be aware of any physical limitations. It is also important to protect your skin from damaging UV rays. When you are planning an outdoor activity, wear loose, light colored clothing and a large hat. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water and rest frequently.

We hope you enjoy the beautiful spring days before the hot summer days are upon us.
